Day 22

Sunlight, fresh air and physical health

On August 25th we will have a huge set of inflatable lungs on display at the Hyson Green market. Our aim is to encourage passers-by to stop and learn a little about their lungs, and perhaps measure how healthy they are.

The lungs are a wonderful creation where air is mixed with blood so that all of the organs of the body can benefit from the oxygen in the blood.

Think on this, as you breathe in you are creating the ideal conditions for life. Your brain, which gets proportionately the largest amount of oxygen can’t function properly without the right amount of air. You can’t think straight. Your co-ordination goes. Mental agility decreases, spiritual relationships are harmed.

To have optimal health requires us to breathe in good fresh air and expose ourselves to the right amount of sunlight.

“…when I violate the laws God has established in my being I am to repent and reform, and place myself in the most favourable condition under the doctors God has provided – pure air, pure water and the healing precious sunlight.”

Child Guidance p.367

That is one of the places where Ellen White refers to the doctors God has provided.

Take a little time to consider where you could find the time to visit the Doctor. Could you alter your Sabbath timetable to include less time inside a building and more time breathing in pure fresh air and being warmed by sunlight?

Could you at least go outside your house first thing in the morning and breathe in deep lungfuls of air, making sure that you breathe out those last elements of air that you have in your lungs?
