Day 30
Praising God and health
I found it all too easy to follow a side-track and think that a positive mental attitude and good humour brings good health. To a large degree they do. I have seen instances that simply be creating happy and pleasant thoughts in a person has helped a person through severe health issues.
Jill Geldart, the Middlesbrough Head Elder at the time, and I visited a lady who was really ill. With a very positive attitude and much good humour we helped a person through a very trying time.
The reading does point out the scientific side, a very positive attitude to life does boost the immune system.
The trick is in working out where to get the positive mental attitude from in the first place. My prayer partner used the word ‘trust’. He used it in this sense. God looked after me yesterday, He will look after me today. I can trust God to look after me – so why should I look on the negative side of things?
Yes, there appears to be a conscious decision here. I WILL look on the bright side of life. I WILL choose a positive life. I WILL decide to have a merry heart, because I trust God that it will do good like medicine.
In your prayer today please, not only include the request for the Holy Spirit to enter your life today (again) but to ask God to give you that cheerful heart that you can share with others. Let's also remember that this is then an attitude of praise to God. We praise Him for the new Spirit we have in us each new day.
