Day 36 The temple restored

Day 36

The temple restored

We have been reminded, in our reading, that we are to be a source of healing for the world.

In last night’s meeting at All Souls we heard Dr. George Mabeza present an excellent, well-balanced and interesting talk about the kind of health habits enjoyed by people around the world who live long and healthy lives. Using research about the ‘blue zones’ of the world we heard about people who lived long lives and enjoyed healthy lifestyles.

You can guess what those lifestyles involve – living as a community, eating sensibly, making sure that you don’t eat too much and getting a variety of foods. They weren’t all vegetarians, but they all aimed to have fairly low meat consumption.

They not only lived long lives but they lived happy productive lives.

The one group that stood out in the research were the Adventists from Loma Linda. The heart surgeon stood out. Still operating in his 80’s he didn’t work because he was short of money, or because he was bored. He hadn’t lived so long he wished he were dead, he worked to help people.

If you look at the people who break athletics world records at advanced ages what stands out? Many of these people are Seventh-day Adventists from Loma Linda. They are men and women who lived fulfilled lives at advanced ages.

There is another issue that stands out. All of the other groups of people who live to advanced ages around the world come from a society group. The Sardinian people who live to a great age are all Sardinian. The Loma Linda Adventists come from many different cultures.

We haven’t just got a health message, we have a healthy message. We needn’t be ashamed of it because the healthy message means that we look good, feel good and are good.

That is something to share – so bring a friend along tonight.
